Day 246: First Communion Page

For this page about my First Communion, I chose background paper from My Mind's Eye, blue lace trim from Big Lots, and embellishments by Jolee's. I made a label using Stampin' Up! card stock and the Fanciful Labels Embossing Folder from Cuttlebug. I used Stampin' Up pens for my journaling. I wrote the Bible verse Matthew 26: 26-28 around the church.  I want to incorporate Bible verses on each page of my Faithbook, so I have to be creative!

Day 217: Happy Birthday with Yoda: A Happy Birthday You Must Have

My son wanted to have his photo taken with his Yoda toy for his birthday. I wanted to use Star Wars paper, but all I had was red or blue, and I really needed green because my son was wearing a green shirt, and Yoda is green.  So, I just used some Simply Asparagus paper by My Mind's Eye as the background.

The quote I chose for this page is written the way Yoda speaks:  "8 you are...A Happy Birthday You Must Have".  I used a variety of letter fonts to make this quote, although I did try to stick to the same font for each word so it would be a little more uniform in style.  This was inspired by Trudy Sigurdson's book, Embellished Emotions for Scrapbookers:  Adding Your Personal Touch to Poems, Quotes, and Sayings.

I used my Copic Green Garden marker to color the number "8" (Paperbilities), the "Happy Birthday" plaque (Making Memories), and the chipboard letters in "Have" (unknown). The green "you" stickers are by Heidi Grace. All other letters and numbers were in my stash, manufacturers unknown.  I added the Yoda sticker at the bottom of the quote, just like you might see a famous person's name after a quote. I punched a hexagon shape from green paper with my Creative Memories punch and used it to back the hexagon-shaped Star Wars sticker and placed that above the photo. I made a banner from chipboard pennant pieces by Jenni Bowlin.  I colored the pennant shapes with my Copic marker and attached them to some sparkly green ribbon in my stash. I added three number 8s from my stash onto the pennants, and hung the banner in the upper left corner of the photo.  Star Wars and Yoda stickers by Creative Imaginations.  Journaling pen by Creative Memories.

Day 187: A Boy Is A Joy

For this page of my son, I used this brown football paper from Echo Park Paper as a background to coordinate with the sepia tones of the photo.  The red wood paper I used as a mat for the photo and for the tag is from My Mind's Eye. I made some photo corners from a fabric tag by Making Memories and put the photo corners under the upper left corner of the tag and the lower right corner of the photo mat.  Usually I would put them on top; however, I think because the texture and color of the fabric made them look heavier than the red paper, they looked better underneath. The sign " A Boy is a Joy" was by EK Success.  I punched out the spots for the brads, added red brads from Oriental Trading Company and some twine from my stash.  I also cut a football  out of the background paper and used it to fill in the "o" in "boy". I used a football-shaped sticker from 7Gypsies to cover up the "o" in joy; the sticker says "amazing".

Day 169: 3 Cute Cousins

I selected this red, orange, and green background paper from my stash (unknown) because it pulled out so many colors from the kids' clothes. I used a green title strip from Creative Memories across the top of the page.  Then  I layered the green-matted number 3 (Making Memories) onto a brown chipboard tag (Bo Bunny) and then added some brown chipboard scrolls (also Bo Bunny) on either side. I matted the number 3, and the "cute" and "cousins" tags (My Mind's Eye) with the Creative Memories paper, and then added brown chipboard swirls from Bo Bunny on top of the words.  Green photo corners cut from more Creative Memories paper and green brads from Bo Bunny complete the page.

Day 165: Daddy Daughter Dance Scrapbook Page

For this photo of my daughter and husband, I wanted to focus on the pretty rosy pink color of her dress.  I found this really neat glittered scalloped heart from Martha Stewart to put behind their photo.  I layered that on top of a piece of pink vellum from Hot Off the Press, and put that over a pale yellow floral paper by Anna Griffin.  I used a "cherish" tag from the Bohemia Collection by My Mind's Eye and a "memories" tag from the Wild Asparagus collection by My Mind's Eye. I dotted the "i" in the words "cherish" and "memories" with pearls from Jolee's.  I used pink silk flowers from Prima as accents.  I put one at the top left of the page and used three at the bottom right of the page to add more visual weight. The crystal centers I used in the flowers as well as the bird embellishment are by Webster's Pages. I think this turned out to be a sweet page of my husband and my daughter and will bring good memories to mind for them when they see it.

Day 162: My Prince

To scrap this photo of my son, I used the crown paper from the Bohemia collection by My Mind's Eye as the background page.  I used the reverse side of the same print to make the brown mat and the brown strip. With my photo corner punch from Paper Shapers by EK Success, I punched some photo corners out of the leftovers from the mat page. I embellished the photo corners with blue brads from Bo Bunny. The "handsome" die cut and the "my son, my handsome prince" title tag are both part of the Bohemia collection.  The crown brad is by Bo Bunny. 

Day 133: Cousins Scrapbook Page

I wanted to use this funky flower paper from My Mind's Eye as a background for this page.  I made a tag to match by sponging  a white tag (Paper Reflections) with blue, green, and fuschia ink from a Kaleidoscope ink pad by Tsukineko.  I matted the white tag on green card stock from Stampin' Up! and punched a photo corner from a Paper Shapers punch.  I had the fiber in my stash.  Paper flowers from Prima helped to tie the page together as the backgrounds for the letters spelling out "Cousins" on the tag. A tattoo from KI Memories, and some buttons from Stampin' Up! added a little punch to the top of the photo.

Day 82: Grandmother and Grandson

I started working on a page featuring a photo of my son and my husband's mom.  I have a background paper with sayings about grandmother (Masterpiece Studios), and I have layered several other papers (Stampin' Up!; My Mind's Eye) as mats, photo corners, etc. but it still needs something else.  I am going to go to bed and will work on this some more tomorrow.

Day 61: Boy with Flower

How do you make a scrapbook page for a boy without having it look too girly?

From the time my kids were little, I always told them if they blew on the fluffy white dandelions gone to seed that they could make a wish. We always called them "wish flowers".  I wanted to capture that memory so on Mother's Day 2009, I snapped some pictures of the kids wishing on dandelions.

I used "Cotton Candy Popsicle" by BoBunny for my background paper. The wispy white flowers put me in mind of dandelions gone to seed.  I didn't want to embellish the flowers too much, but I thought the lime green brads (Oriental Trading Company) added a little dimension to the page.  The fuzzy blue letters from Pressed Petals convey the feeling of the wispy dandelions.  The green dragonfly (American Crafts) makes me think of the dandelion flying away on the wind once my son made his wish.  The words (My Mind's Eye) convey all those things we do when we make a wish; we dream, imagine, wish for the impossible.  I used letters by Marjolein Bastien to record the date.  Those letters were great to use as they are half blue and half green.  I tinted the photo yellow and added the writing on the photo at www.picnik.com. I think it is a great way to journal that does not use up other space on the scrapbook page.

Day 45: Two At a Time

I have two kids, therefore, I have two scrapbooks that I am constantly working on.  Since I have a son and a daughter, my scrapping is usually pretty gender specific.  However, I can sometimes design one scrapbook page and use it for both of the kids, as I did on this scrapbook page of the photo Christmas card we sent when we bought our new house.  I usually double up on my Christmas scrapbook supplies and make the same page twice.  Once I have the initial design figured out, it only takes a few minutes longer to make that second page,  and it is one less page I have to think about designing.

For this page, I used "Mary" by Melissa Frances as the background paper. Since my kids are featured in the photo Christmas card, this paper with the print of children is well-suited. I had a background paper that I had made using the polished stone technique tucked away with my stash of Christmas papers, so I trimmed it to use as a mat for the photo Christmas card, then layered a piece of green vellum (Hot Off the Press) underneath as another mat.  As the vellum is opaque, it allows the design of the paper to show through, yet adds size and color to the page.  Stars at two corners of the photo help the eye to focus on the photo. I used snowflake ribbon (Brenda Walton for K & Co.) at the top and bottom of the page.  I also twisted some blue pom pom ribbon with silver garland (both from Lost & Found by Jen Allyson, for My Mind's Eye) to add some weight and color to the bottom of the page .I didn't know how I could attach the garland other than staples, so I just stapled all my ribbons on.  I love the vintage feel using this paper and trims contributed to the page.

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays and I had a lot of fun designing this page.
