Day 172: Make Your Own Flowers from Ribbon

I love flowers and use them on almost all my pages for my daughter. Since pre-made flowers can be kind of expensive, I wanted to see if I could make some out of ribbon.  I bought some 1.5 inch wide ribbon from the $1 bin at the store.  Using some Sizzlets dies, I was able to cut out flower and leaf shapes from the ribbon.  The type of ribbon I bought was made from polyester.  Since the ribbon was almost as wide as the Sizzlet die I was using, I had to adhere the ribbon to the die.  I tried double-sided tape, glue dots, and a Dotto tape runner.  I found that I could see the double sided tape and the glue dot from the front side of the flower.  When I tried to remove them, the material frayed.  I had the best luck with the Dotto tape runner.  I did find that sometimes the die did not cut the material all the way through, and I would need to cut out the rest of the flower with scissors.  Overall, I am glad I tried to make my own flowers.  I know I can in a pinch.  However, it is a lot less work just to buy some at my favorite scrapbook store!!
