New Year New You Webster's Pages June 2014

These are the June pages for the Webster's Pages© "New Year New You" Calendar Class that is held monthly at The Paper Forest Scrapbook Boutique in Washington, Illinois.

June Page Left

"Frosted Kiwi" by Bazzill©  will be our background for this page.

We are going to make a pocket that can be used as a place to tuck away photos, ticket stubs, or notes about the month. In order to do that, we will cut the "A New You" (bicycle paper/floral print) on the diagonal, making two equally sized triangles. First of all, cut off the bar code strip from the bottom of the paper. Using a rotary cutting tool, ruler, and mat, OR a guillotine cutter, cut the sheet diagonally from point to point.

Set aside one triangle to be used on a different project.

On the remaining triangle, apply double-sided tape on the two straight edges of the bicycle side of the paper. DO NOT apply tape to the diagonal edge.

Remove the backing from the double-sided tape. Turn the paper over so that the floral print is face up. Align the triangle in the lower left corner of the "Frosted Kiwi" paper, and press firmly on the straight edges. This will make a "pocket" with the opening on the diagonal.

Apply double-sided tape along the diagonal edge of the floral print side of the paper.  Attach pink ruffle ribbon.

Using Stampin' Up!© "Labels" framelet, cut a label from "Passionate" card stock (by Bazzill©).  Attach the June calendar in the center of the label.  Attach in upper right of the page ("Frosted Kiwi" portion). Adhere rhinestones on the label as shown.

Using "London Fog" ink by Memento©, stamp the "Monarch Butterfly" (Stampin' Up!©) onto a piece of white card stock. Color the entire butterfly with Copic© YG03, "Yellow Green". Highlight the shaded areas with Copic© G14, "Apple Green". Blend with "Yellow Green".

Cut out the butterfly. Do not worry about the antennae. Lightly apply silver Smooch© on shaded areas of butterfly wings and body. Allow Smooch© to dry. Attach a green glitter brad to the top of the butterfly's body. Wrap wire around the legs of the brad, then fold brads down over wire to hold it in place. Fashion a pair of antennae from green wire. Apply pop dote on back side of the butterfly.  Attach the butterfly in the center of the floral pocket.

June Page Right

We will be using the "floral frame" side of "Do Your Best" as the page background.

Using Memento© ink in "London Fog", stamp two of the rose image from "Fifth Avenue Floral" stamp set (Stampin' Up!©) onto a piece of white card stock. Using the same ink, stamp three rose leaf images onto white card stock.

Color all three of the leaves with Copic© YG03, "Yellow Green" as the base color. Highlight the stem and veins of each leaf with Copic© G14, "Apple Green". Blend "Yellow Green" over each leaf. Lightly apply silver Smooch© on veins and stems of each leaf.

Color the first rose using Copic© Y21 "Buttercup Yellow" as the base color.  Highlight with Copic© RV11, "Pink". Blend with Copic© Y13, "Lemon Yellow".

Color the second rose using Copic© RV11, "Pink" as the base color. Highlight with Copic© R29 "Lipstick Red". Blend with Copic© R85, "Rose Red". Lightly apply silver smooch near highlighted areas. Allow smooch to dry, or smudge with your finger.

Cut out all roses and leaves. Attach pop dots on the backs of the roses. Use regular adhesive on the leaves. Adhere in the top center of the page.

Apply rhinestones to center of roses.

Day 344: Home Christmas Card

Tonight I made this Christmas card for my husband. The image is by PSX.  I stamped the image with Memento ink and used Copic markers to color it in.  I added some fake snow for added depth, and then used an oval frame that was in my stash to draw the eye in.

Day 327: Holy Triptych Christmas Card Day 1

Tonight I stamped and colored images using Stampin' Up's Holy Triptych nativity set.  I stamped the images on Neenah paper, using Memento inks and my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to line them up, and then I colored the images with Copic markers.

Day 311: Sympathy Card

Unfortunately, the mom of one of my daughter's friends died yesterday, so tonight I helped her to make a sympathy card.  I showed her how to use the Cuttlebug embossing folder, how to use the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to position her stamps where she wanted them, and how to use Copic markers to color the praying hands image (Dollar Tree; all other images and verses shown, card stock:  Stampin' Up!). Inks:  Brown: Memento and Silver: Colorbox. My daughter selected the card stock, embossing folder, and all the stamps and inks used. Hopefully this card will help lift her friend up after the sudden and unexpected death of her mother.

Day 289: Color Me Floral Card Topper Part 2

Today I mounted my colored floral card topper onto Stampin' Up! card stock, stamped the inner sentiment, and added the "love you lots" tag, which I colored with Copic markers.

I colored a card topper from Hot Off the Press with Copic markers tonight.  I will finish this card tomorrow.

Day 287: Bird Tile

Tonight I made a bird tile.  I purchased a box of tumbled tiles from my local hardware store so I can make coasters or decorative tiles. I applied the bird rub-on Decor Element from Stampin' Up!, and colored inside the blank areas of the rub-on with Copic markers.  When the ink appeared to be dry,  I peeled off the stencil, used a VersaMark stamp pad to create the blue-green background, and added some flowers from Prima and a few pearls from Jolee's.  I sprayed the tile with a matte acrylic finish by Mod Podge to prevent smearing or running.

Day 221: Monster Truck Card

 My husband and I are very close with my husband's cousin, and her teenage son has a birthday coming up.  I decided a monster truck card might be considered "cool".

I used "chocolate chip" card stock from Stampin' Up! as the card base.  I ran a piece of brown leather look paper from my scrap folder through Cuttlebug's "tire track" embossing folder.  I stamped the Great Impressions monster truck stamp with Memento Ink on Neenah paper, and colored it with my Copic markers. I cut out the truck and  used pop dots to adhere it to the tire tracks.  I layered that on top of a "sand" paper in my scrap folder.  I used my Crop-A-Dile and added 5 black eyelets across the top and bottom of the card to rev it up a little bit.

Day 217: Happy Birthday with Yoda: A Happy Birthday You Must Have

My son wanted to have his photo taken with his Yoda toy for his birthday. I wanted to use Star Wars paper, but all I had was red or blue, and I really needed green because my son was wearing a green shirt, and Yoda is green.  So, I just used some Simply Asparagus paper by My Mind's Eye as the background.

The quote I chose for this page is written the way Yoda speaks:  "8 you are...A Happy Birthday You Must Have".  I used a variety of letter fonts to make this quote, although I did try to stick to the same font for each word so it would be a little more uniform in style.  This was inspired by Trudy Sigurdson's book, Embellished Emotions for Scrapbookers:  Adding Your Personal Touch to Poems, Quotes, and Sayings.

I used my Copic Green Garden marker to color the number "8" (Paperbilities), the "Happy Birthday" plaque (Making Memories), and the chipboard letters in "Have" (unknown). The green "you" stickers are by Heidi Grace. All other letters and numbers were in my stash, manufacturers unknown.  I added the Yoda sticker at the bottom of the quote, just like you might see a famous person's name after a quote. I punched a hexagon shape from green paper with my Creative Memories punch and used it to back the hexagon-shaped Star Wars sticker and placed that above the photo. I made a banner from chipboard pennant pieces by Jenni Bowlin.  I colored the pennant shapes with my Copic marker and attached them to some sparkly green ribbon in my stash. I added three number 8s from my stash onto the pennants, and hung the banner in the upper left corner of the photo.  Star Wars and Yoda stickers by Creative Imaginations.  Journaling pen by Creative Memories.

Day 189: Painting a Sun Catcher with Copic Markers

Today my son asked me if I would paint with him.  I had a sun catcher that I had picked up at a garage sale that I wanted to paint and hang in my window; however, I did not find any paint for sun catchers in the kids' paint box. I decided I would try to use my re-inkers from Stampin' Up! Some colors adhered well, but others did not.  So, I thought I would try using my Copic markers.  They worked really well.  As I colored each section, I dried the sun catcher with my heat tool to make sure the color was permanent. I used Crystal Effects from Stampin' Up! to give it more dimension. I am excited to know that I can use my Copic markers for another craft!

Day 173: Father's Day Card

If you are wondering why I am posting about making my husband a Father's Day card when Father's Day has already come and gone, it is because he was out of town for work on Father's Day.  He is due back tomorrow, so I made his card tonight.  I used a combination of Stampin' Up! stamps from "Set Sail" and "The Open Sea" stamp sets. I  stamped the sail boat image on Neenah paper with Memento ink, and then colored the image with Copic markers.  All other papers and inks are by Stampin' Up. The baker's twine is from We R Memory Keepers.  "Everything" stamp is by Penny Black.

Day 160: You Touch My Life Card for Step-Father and Lighthouse Card

For his step-father, my husband chose this dog stamp from the "For Father" set and the "You Touch My Life" verse from the "Set Sail" set, both by Stampin' Up! I used circle dies from Lifestyle Crafts to die cut the circle shapes.  I stamped the image and verse with Memento ink and colored the boots and dog with Copic markers.  I sponged a couple of different inks around the dog image. Striped background paper by Robyn Pandolph for Daisy D's. The rust card stock was from my stash; the Old Olive card stock is by Stampin' Up!

For my brother-in-law, I made this lighthouse card.  Stamp is from Repeat Impressions.  Card stock is Stampin' Up! I colored the image with Copic markers and used Sizzix die and the Big Shot to cut out the oval and frame.

Day 159: Tractor Card

For Father's Day, I made this tractor card for my husband's grandfather, who was a farmer.  Card stock is from Stampin' Up! The tractor stamp is by Hero Arts.  I stamped the tractor with Memento ink and colored it in with Copic markers.  I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder to create the tire track effect on the brown card stock. I had some tractor brads and a green hinge and brads (all from Oriental Trading Company) which I used to accent the main image.  I sponged ink over the tractor image and the card background.

Day 158: Father and Son Card

I made this Father and Son card for one of my brothers-in-law for Father's Day. I stamped the image, masked it, then sponged the grass and sky with inks from Stampin' Up! I colored the image with Copic markers. Card stock is SU, striped paper is from Daisy D's.

Day 125: Mother's Day Rose Heart Wreath Card in Yellow

I have to hurry up and get my Mother's Day cards made.  Everyone lives in different states, so I need to get these made and in the mail.  I made this yellow one for my mother-in-law, as yellow is her favorite color.

Day 123: Blue Ballerina

Tonight I stamped and colored a ballerina with the Ballet Dancing Doll Stamp from Limited Edition.  I used Copic markers to color the doll in blues, as this card is for my niece's ballet recital, and blue is her favorite color. It is late, so I am going to bed and will finish this tomorrow.

Day 115: Mother's Day Card

I began designing my Mother's Day card for the most important mom in my life....mine!! I used Rose Heart Wreath Frame from Repeat Impressions as my focal image.  I stamped it on Pretty in Pink paper from Stampin' Up! and colored it with Copic markers.  I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to position the Happy Mother's Day sentiment from Stampin' Up! in the center of the Rose Heart Wreath Frame. I then layered it on a green lace paper from Basic Grey and a rose paper from Echo Park Paper Co. I cut a piece of Regal Rose card stock to use as my card base.    I added a pink ribbon from Big Lots and 3 rose embellishments from Stampin' Up! to pull it all together.

Day 84: "Ode to Spring" Easter Cards

Tonight I started to work on my Easter cards.  I am using "Ode to Spring" by Repeat Impressions (http://www.repeatimpressions.com/images/2605.gif ) as my focal image for my cards.  I covered the flowers with painter's tape and used VersaMark on the rabbit portion of the stamp, wiped off the painter's tape with an alcohol wipe, and then stamped onto white cardstock.  I then poured a pastel embossing powder (Stampin' Up!) over the VersaMark rabbit image.  Despite having the painter's tape on the flowers, embossing powder still wanted to collect where the flowers were supposed to be.  I just used a sponge paint brush to brush off the embossing powder in the areas where I didn't want it.  Then I heat embossed the rabbit. Using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to line the images up, I then over-stamped the flowers in brown Memento Ink, and colored the flowers with Copic markers. Tomorrow I will finish the cards.

Day 78: Get Well Card

Tonight I stamped a wishing well (Sweet Impressions) on Neenah paper, then colored with Copic markers and Koh-I-Noor pencils.  The darker wishing well was colored with the Copic markers, the lighter one was colored with the Koh-I-Noor pencils.  I used gelly roll pens by Sakura to add some shine and glitter to the water and the roses on the cards. I used an argyle embossing folder (Cuttlebug) and tried to do the same heat embossing that I learned at the Stamp Scrap Art Tour workshop, but I had trouble getting results I was happy with.  I used the same technique, so either my VersaMark is old, or maybe it is the Cuttlebug embossing folder.  I do recall the instructor saying she found the Sizzix folders a little easier to work with for this technique.  I stamped "Get Well Soon" (Repeat Impressions) on a scrap of yellow paper (all papers by Stampin' Up!), added a couple of eyelets and used foam tape (Scotch) to add dimension to the wishing well and to the sentiment.

Any comments on which wishing well you like better?  I think I prefer the lighter one, which was done with the Koh-I-Noor pencils. The one with the Copic markers is a little dark; however, I don't have all that many Copic markers yet.  Maybe when I get a few lighter colors, I will be able to create lighter images with the Copic markers.

This is not one of my favorite cards I have made...still needs to be tweaked, but I'll get it figured out.

Day 72: Ballet Dancing Doll Card

I made this card for a little girl who is in the hospital with heart failure.  I thought it might entertain her since the ballerina moves (note the brads at her shoulders and on the tutu). The stamp is from Limited Edition.  I used Memento ink to stamp the ballerina doll on to Neenah paper and colored her with  the Copic markers that I won at the Stamp Scrap Art Tour. The background paper is from BoBunny.
